This is a collaborative project with Daniel Sutcliffe, in response to a brief set by the designers & DJs Emma Noble and Sophie Heath. The video, titled “Sugar Crash” is based on our interpretation of the song “Can’t Give You Anything” by The Stylistics. The twinkling sounds within the song inspired the soft focus dazzle within our video, but the high pitched notes sound more like whining, hence the incessant ringing of the siren. In our opinion the lyrics within the song ruined the music, therefore we wanted to create a juxtaposition between a seemingly perfect, almost “overkill” candy land that slowly distorts into something rather ominous. The still from our video displays a broken down ice-cream van in a distorted candy world, which we used as the “vinyl sleeve”.
